Hon. Albert Kusi, Special Adviser to His Excellency, Apostle Governor Prince Bassey Edet Otu, on Hospitality, has reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering commitment to repositioning Cross River State’s hospitality sector through strategic capacity development, professional enlightenment and the institutionalisation of international best practices. Speaking on the ongoing food safety, hygiene and hospitality capacity-building programme at Metropolitan Hotel, formerly Transcorp Hotel, Calabar, Hon. Kusi emphasized that the initiative is designed to equip hospitality professionals with contemporary knowledge and practical competencies required to operate within a safer, healthier and more competitive service environment.
The training represents a significant intervention in strengthening standards across the hospitality value chain, particularly in the areas of food handling, personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, workplace safety and quality service delivery. Participants are being exposed to essential principles that will enhance their professional efficiency, improve consumer confidence and contribute to the overall elevation of hospitality services across the state. The initiative further underscores the administration’s recognition of the hospitality industry as a viable platform for economic diversification, employment generation and sustainable human-capital development.
Hon. Albert Kusi further called on Cross Riverians to remain steadfast in their support for His Excellency, Apostle Governor Prince Bassey Edet Otu, whose administration continues to pursue programmes and policies aimed at transforming the state and improving the wellbeing of its citizens. He noted that meaningful development requires collective ownership, constructive participation and sustained cooperation between government, industry practitioners, stakeholders and the general public.
He stressed that the continuous professional development of hospitality workers is indispensable to the emergence of a globally competitive hospitality ecosystem capable of meeting modern expectations. According to him, improved standards in food safety, hygiene and customer service will not only protect the health and wellbeing of residents and visitors but will also strengthen Cross River State’s reputation as a premier tourism and hospitality destination.
As Cross River advances its development agenda under the People First administration, stakeholders and citizens are encouraged to embrace every initiative that promotes knowledge, professionalism, innovation and responsible service delivery. Together, through sustained collaboration and visionary leadership, Cross River State can build a safer, healthier, more professional and internationally competitive hospitality sector that creates opportunities and contributes meaningfully to the prosperity of its people.
